The Tories have reversed the progress made under the Coalition, even closing down the Department of Energy and Climate Change. They’ve banned the cheapest form of renewable energy - onshore wind; scrapped zero-carbon homes; ended The Green Deal which helped homeowners improve energy efficiency; set an unambitious target of 2040 for the phasing out of new petrol and diesel cars; privatised the Green Investment Bank and supported the expansion of Heathrow Airport. And the recent, long overdue suspension of fracking – a practice they’d enthusiastically championed - is all about avoiding electoral, not environmental, damage. YOU CAN’T TRUST THE TORIES WITH OUR ENVIRONMENT.

The Labour Party Conference endorsed a 2030 target for zero carbon emissions. This is both opportunistic and wholly unrealistic, a programme for a protest group, not a party of government. They and the Greens have tried to start a bidding war on deadlines rather than look at the reality of changing the way we all live. For ideological reasons, they want to renationalise the utilities at enormous cost, rather than spending those billions on the practical measures needed to solve the climate change emergency. LABOUR ARE BIG ON PROMISES, SHORT ON DETAIL.

The Liberal Democrats have a proven record of delivery on environmental policy. In Coalition we introduced many pioneering measures, including the 5p charge on plastic bags, cutting their use by over 85 per cent. In government, we’ll invest £100 billion to tackle the climate emergency. We’ll achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045 at the latest, cutting emissions by 75% by 2030. We’ll restore subsidies for renewable energy. We’ll BAN FRACKING FOR GOOD. We’ll restore the zero-carbon homes standard and insulate every home by 2030. We’ll adopt a Zero-Carbon Heat strategy, ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 and cut VAT on new electric vehicles from 20% to 5%. We’ll convert the entire rail network to ultra-low emission technology by 2035 and ensure there is no net increase in airport runways. THERE IS NO PLANET B!
